Renewable Energy Tour
Consumers Energy sponsored a Renewable Energy Tour for its member-customers
and friends of the cooperative. On June 11, the tour began at the
Biomass Energy Conversion Facility (BECON) in Nevada. The focal
point of the BECON facility is developing value-added products from
Iowa's abundant biomass resources. The tour at the facility began
at 8:30 a.m. and ended approximately 10:00 a.m. The group then traveled
to the Top of Iowa Wind Farm in Worth County, which is Iowa's third
major wind energy production site consisting of eighty-nine 900-kW
wind turbines across 6 miles of Iowa's northern most counties.
Consumers Energy is a progressive energy solutions and energy services
cooperative located in Marshalltown serving 4,700 customers in Marshall,
Story, Polk, Tama and Jasper Counties since 1938. Consumers Energy
is also a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, which is an alliance of
local, consumer-owned electric utilities serving millions of businesses
