Consumers Energy Honored for Economic Development Leadership

Local commitment to economic development is at the foundation of the electric cooperatives of Iowa. The Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) annually recognizes electric cooperatives and municipal electric utilities for outstanding support, contributions, and participation in development projects.

At Central Iowa Power Cooperative's 55th annual meeting in Des Moines, six Iowa Utilities were recognized for their development accomplishments and commitment to their local communities. "With the success of these projects the electric cooperatives and municipal electric systems of Iowa are setting the standard and making a significant contribution to the quality of life and economy of our state," stated Rand Fisher, President, Iowa Area Development Group.

Consumers Energy received the IADG Marketing and Promotion System Award for their participation and sponsorship of the Power Supply Forum for members, key accounts, and Iowa business leaders. The forum featured policy advisors from the US Department of Energy, The Cambridge Energy Research Group, and a panel of Iowa business leaders.

The Iowa Area Development Group is the marketing and economic development agency for Iowa's member-owned electric cooperatives and select municipal electric utilities. The "Powerful Partnership" of IADG and its member systems was established in 1985. IADG has assisted with over 950 successful business expansions and start up companies. This growth represents capital investment of more than $3 billion and over 29,000 jobs for Iowa.
