Consumers Energy's 64th Annual Meeting
Consumers Energy held its 64th Annual Meeting on September 5, 2002,
at the Marshalltown Senior High School in Marshalltown. Over 300
owners and guests of the cooperative attended the business meeting.
Elected to three-year terms were Kathy Buschbom of State Center,
Allan Armbrecht of Colo and Mark Tinnermeier of Newton. After the
annual meeting, Robert Collins was re-elected as President of the
Board.
Robert Collins of Colo presided over the meeting, which included
reports from Lee Dadisman, Secretary-Treasurer, on the financial
status of the cooperative. Brian D. Heithoff, CEO/General Manager
of Consumers Energy, opened his report with a question/answer session
from the membership and reported on the operations of the cooperative
over the last year discussing the advantages of doing business as
a cooperative. Our most important lesson of this year may
have been a stronger realization of the unique traits of cooperatives.
Consumers Energy centers on a consumers-first orientation. Our mission
is simple whats good for our member-consumers is whats
best for us. What hurts consumers hurts us. A simple approach, perhaps,
but a solid statement to our foundation. The best lesson we can
learn from this past year is that co-ops should never stop showing
why were unique, stated Heithoff during the meeting.
Consumers Energy is a progressive energy distribution and energy
services company serving 4,700 customers in Marshall, Story, Polk,
Tama and Jasper Counties since 1938. Today Consumers Energy is perched
on the threshold of a new and challenging future. Consumers Energy
is also a Touchstone Energy cooperative, which is an alliance of
local, consumer-owned electric utilities serving millions of businesses
and homes across the country.
