Consumers Energy Sponsors School Weather Station
Nevada, IA The students and facility at Nevada Middle School
now have an additional tool to use to study weather information
and apply it to at least eight different curriculum areas thanks
to a SchoolNet weather station provided by Consumers Energy and
KCCI News Channel 8.
Mounted on the roof of the school, the weather station provides
real-time data for the students and the meteorologists
at KCCI-TV. The sensors monitor the temperature, humidity, rainfall,
wind speed, wind direction, dew point, wind-chill and barometric
pressure. This information is recorded on a computer and then sent
via the Internet to KCCI-TV.
SchoolNet data readings are part of the five daily newscasts and
are used during special coverage when areas experience severe weather.
The weather data may also be accessed by anyone via the Internet
through KCCIs web site, www.theiowachannel.com.
Deb Borton, Marketing Manager, Consumers Energy, explains the co-ops
involvement, As a great investment in the communities where
we serve and in our future generations. We are very proud to be
a sponsor of such a worthwhile project. Consumers Energy has received
tremendous feedback from our other installations and we are excited
we were also able to help out in Nevada.
Meteorologist John McLaughlin presented the weather station April
15th live during the 6pm newscast.
