Project Description for Ankeny
Polk County, IA
Consumers Energy received approval from the City of Ankeny in August,
2001, to obtain a natural gas franchise to construct, maintain,
and operate a natural gas distribution system within the city limits
of Ankeny.
Also in August, Consumers Energy reached an agreement with two
land developers in southwest Ankeny to begin laying gas pipeline
inside their subdivisions.
Consumers Energy is the preferred natural gas company with Eric
Sheldahl who was the developer for The Westwinds, Watercrest, and
Coves West subdivisions.
Consumers Energy installed approximately 3 miles of 6", 0.5 miles
of 4" and 3 miles of 2" polyethylene pipeline. The 6" pipeline originates
at the Northern Natural town border station located at Oralabor
Road and Irvinedale Drive and terminates at the Watercrest Development
located at NW 26th Street and 1st Street in northwest Ankeny. The
4" goes south and terminates in the Glenbrooke Subdivision. The
2" has been piped within all of the subdivisions within a dedicated
gas easement. Approximately 140' of 2" Grade B seamless Schedule
80 pipe and regulator/measuring station was constructed adjacent
to the NNG town border station.
Consumers Energy signed up Leo Beebout as our first natural gas
customer in Ankeny in October, 2001.
Consumers Energy natural gas pricing is approximately 5% less than
that of the competition. We anticipate to provide consolidated billing
in the very near future.
